Yep you’ve heard it before…Yawn! All external agencies will say, ‘We are an extension of your marketing department’ and this is truly how an agency should function, however being external to a business is just as important as being part of it.
So many companies think that having an in-house agency is the way forward and perhaps for some it works, but as an outside agency peeling back the skin of a client business, we often see a company stifled by guidelines and being scared of creating something new and in the now! An agency will often bring in new views, experience of what has worked for others with added innovation and the opportunity to push the boundaries that others may not have dared tread. But what makes a good agency or should I say great agency?
A great agency for some isn’t always the same fit for others, that said it’s not just about ‘does the design look good’, ‘are they cheap’ and ‘do I like them’. For us it’s about the overall value an agency can bring to a business in order to get a better return on investment from that design, and did it work?
We know there will always be someone cheaper, there will always be someone with swankier offices and there will always be an agency that wines and dines a client into loving them more. But that can only last so long before the holes appear. We currently get around 80% of our work via recommendation and repeat business. We are often told that our ability to turn around work quickly, with attention to detail gets us a long way. Add in great creative, strategic thinking, analysis and not being afraid to challenge a brief… they also lead us on to be winners. We know we are not the cheapest agency, our offices are not huge and state of the art. But we like to think the value and the team we bring sets us apart from others. So for all the clients out there who are not working with us, remember it’s not just about the icing… it’s also about how the cake tastes!
